Social tariffs

Listen

On July 3, 2026, the extension of the Extraordinary and Exceptional Support "Solidarity Cylinder" came into force, which provides for a payment of 25 euros, after the purchase of a bottled liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to beneficiaries of the social electricity tariff, with a limit of two units per calendar month per beneficiary, limited to twelve units annually.

To receive this support, consumers should present the following documentation to the parish council:

  • Current electricity bill proving that you are a beneficiary of the social tariff
  • Invoice or receipt for the purchase of the LPG bottle, showing the taxpayer number of the holder of the electricity contract, dated between January and December 2026
  • Citizen card, resident card or passport of the electricity contract holder

Consumers who are not entitled to the social tariff, but in whom at least one family member is a beneficiary of one of the following social benefits, may also benefit from this support:

  • Solidarity supplement for the elderly
  • Social insertion income
  • Social disability pension
  • Inclusion social benefit supplement
  • Social old-age pension or social unemployment benefit

If you are entitled to this support because you have a family member who receives one of the aforementioned social benefits, the consumer must present the following documents:

  • Document proving receipt of the social benefit, with reference to the previous month or the month of the support request
  • Invoice or receipt for the purchase of the LPG bottle, dated between January and December 2026, showing the respective taxpayer number
  • Citizen card, resident card or passport of the social benefit holder

The extraordinary and exceptional support “Solidarity Cylinder” may be submitted until September 18th, 2026 and applies to mainland Portugal. It is managed by the Environmental Fund in coordination with Parish Councils—via the National Association of Parishes (ANAFRE)—as determined by Ordinance no. 1016/2026 of January 29th, issued by the Government. This extraordinary and exceptional support was established by Government Ordinance No. 3847-A/2026 of March 24th and extended by Ordinance No. 8400-A/2026 of July 2nd.
