As part of the activity of monitoring the wholesale electricity market, the evolution of organised markets of the Iberian Electricity Market (MIBEL), the use of cross-border capacities between Portugal and Spain and the evolution of the system services market in Portugal hold particular interest. ERSE publishes every six months a bulletin comparing energy prices in Portugal with those in European Union countries. In these newsletters, the electricity and natural gas prices in Portugal that are compared with those in European Union (EU) countries concern the most representative consumers.
Price statistics in European Union countries are released by Eurostat. Eurostat releases both prices and their components, which provides greater transparency. Statistics collected by Eurostat on energy can be found in the energy database (in English, German or French). Each semester, Eurostat publishes summary articles on energy prices in the European Union:
