ERSE – Energy Services Regulatory Authority released the Technical Quality of Service Report for the electricity sector for 2022, which assesses the quality of electricity supply provided to consumers by transmission and distribution networks operators. This monitoring is based on compliance with quality standards established in the Quality of Service Code.

The technical quality of supply provided to customers is measured through the continuity of supply indicators, as well as indicators that monitor the voltage quality.

In the National Transmission Network, operated by REN - Rede Eléctrica Nacional, there were two long unplanned interruptions at the delivery points in Alcochete and Carvoeira in 2022. Nevertheless, the low number of interruptions in the delivery points of the transmission network demonstrates the reliability of this network.

During the same period, the National Distribution Network, operated by E-Redes, showed an improvement in its performance in terms of the quality of supply perceived by customers compared to 2021.

The amount of compensation paid to customers, in 2022, for non-compliance with individual continuity of supply standards, by E-Redes, totalled 765 000 euros, reflecting an increase of 28% compared to 2021.

Regarding the Autonomous Regions of the Azores and Madeira, whose network operators are EDA and EEM, respectively, there was an improvement in the continuity of supply indicators.

In line with its goal of promoting knowledge and active participation of society in the regulation of the energy sector, and widening access to the information produced by ERSE, a brochure - ERSExplica - is published together with the Report, summarising some of the main continuity of supply indicators. However, this ERSExplica focuses only on the low voltage network, portraying the number and duration of interruptions experienced by consumers.
