ERSE has published the outcomes of the “FIRMe – Integrated Flexibility in a Market-Based System” pilot project.

20/07/2026

The Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE) has approved the final report on the 'FIRMe – Integrated Flexibility in a Market-Based System' pilot project.

The project was developed by the distribution network operator E-REDES with two main objectives: first, to develop in-house expertise in using flexibility across all E-REDES operations; and second, to stimulate the local flexibility market among all stakeholders.

The project, which took place in 2024 and 2025, made a significant contribution to the defined objectives. It was therefore deemed important to continue exploring the potential of local flexibility markets. This decision was justified by the need to refine internal procedures, gain experience, and learn lessons that would be useful for grid operation and future regulation.
Accordingly, the project continued through a new pilot, FIRMe 2.0, which ran from 2026 to 2027.
