Pedro Verdelho elected Chair of the International Confederation of Energy Regulators

The Chairman of the Board of the Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE), Pedro Verdelho, was elected on 24 September as Chair of the International Confederation of Energy Regulators (ICER), a voluntary framework for cooperation among the world’s energy regulators.
The new leadership team of the International Confederation of Energy Regulators was announced during the IX World Forum on Energy Regulation (WFER), held in Tbilisi, Georgia, and comprises the following members:
Chair: Pedro Verdelho, President of the Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER) and President of the Board of Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE), from Portugal.
Vice-chair: Sandoval Feitosa, President of the Ibero-American Association of Energy Regulatory Entities (ARIAE) and Director-General of the National Electricity Agency (ANEEL) of Brazil.
Vice-Chair: Annegret Groebel, of the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) of Germany.
Following this election, Pedro Verdelho announced his intention to “further strengthen ICER as a truly global platform for cooperation, that provides practical value to its members through knowledge sharing, capacity building and the exchange of regulatory best practices.
"I also want to reinforce cooperation among regional regulatory associations, in addressing the interlinked challenges of the energy transition, affordability, security of supply, market resilience and strong, independent regulation," he added.
The new leadership term began ate the conclusion of the IX WFER and runs until through WFER X.
The WFER is held within the framework of the ICER, which aims to help improve the design and implementation of public policies in the energy sector by exchanging information and best practice among the world’s energy regulators.
