On 16 April 2026, ERSE - the Energy Services Regulatory Authority participated in another initiative of the National Republican Guard's (GNR) Safe School Programme at Frei Manuel Cardoso Integrated Primary School in Fronteira, Portalegre.
The initiative, which was carried out under the Cooperation Protocol between ERSE and the GNR, was supported by officers from the Community Policing Section of the Portalegre Territorial Command. It raised awareness among around 65 pupils in Years 7, 8 and 9 of various energy-related topics.
A range of educational materials were used to explain the processes of electricity generation, transmission and distribution, as well as the environmental impacts associated with the energy sector and the measures to be adopted to promote energy efficiency.
The session, which included a practical and experimental component, involved a demonstration of the process of electricity generation, transmission and distribution to the customer’s home, using a small-scale model.
Finally, pupils were made aware of the importance of energy efficiency measures through a practical demonstration showing the consumption levels recorded by small household appliances.
The Cooperation Protocol, signed by ERSE and the GNR, aims to develop joint actions and initiatives to combat energy illiteracy in schools as part of the GNR’s ‘Safe School’ project. ERSE has been associated with this project since 2021.
ERSE aims to increase the energy literacy of future consumers through these awareness-raising activities among the school population, while also highlighting the importance of adopting energy efficiency measures in daily life to save energy and reduce environmental impacts.
