03/06/2022

As part of the celebrations of the World Energy Day and the World Children’s Day, ERSE – the Energy Services Regulatory Authority - promoted four awareness-raising sessions on different energy topics for the school population of the Portela - Moscavide School Group.

The first initiative took place on 26 May 2022, with the 9th A, B and C classes of Arco Iris Secondary School. The second initiative, with students from classes 6th-7  and 6th-5 of Escola EB 2,3 Gaspar Correia, took place on 2 June 2022.

A series of educational materials were used to explain the processes involved in the production, transport and distribution of electricity and natural gas, as well as the environmental impact of energy sectors and the measures to be taken to promote energy efficiency.

Initiatives with a practical and experimental component included replicating a hydroelectric power generation process on a small scale, through to transmission and distribution to the customer's home.

The whole process of importing, transporting, storing and distributing natural gas  was also explained.

Finally, students were made aware of the importance of energy efficiency measures through concrete examples of the consumption levels of various household appliances.

Students were actively involved in all the initiatives and the level of participation was high.

With these awareness-raising initiatives aimed at the school population, ERSE aims to increase the level of energy literacy of future consumers, while at the same time making them aware of the importance of adopting energy efficiency measures in everyday life, which will save energy and reduce environmental impact.
