ERSE joined forces with the GNR at the Rates School Group
22/05/2025
ERSE, the Energy Services Regulatory Authority, took part in an initiative to share information with 8th and 9th grade students at the Rates School Group in Póvoa do Varzim, as part of its cooperation agreement with the GNR (National Republican Guard).
The initiative was developed under the Safe School programme and was supported on the ground by military personnel from the Matosinhos Territorial Detachment of the GNR. It raised awareness of various energy issues among around 50 students and teachers.
A set of educational materials was used to explain the processes of electricity production, transport and distribution, as well as the environmental impacts associated with the energy sector and the measures to be taken to promote energy efficiency.
The action, which had a practical and experimental component, included a demonstration of the process of electricity production, transport and distribution to the customer's home, using a small-scale model.
Finally, students were made aware of the importance of energy efficiency measures through a practical demonstration showing the levels of consumption recorded by small household appliances.
The Cooperation Protocol, signed by ERSE and the GNR, aims, among other things, to develop joint actions and initiatives to combat energy illiteracy in schools, as part of the GNR's Safe School project, with which ERSE has been associated since 2021.
Through these awareness-raising actions among the school population, ERSE aims to increase the level of energy literacy of future consumers and, at the same time, raise awareness of the importance of adopting energy efficiency measures in everyday life that enable energy savings and, in this way, reduce environmental impacts.
