World Consumer Rights Day | ERSE launches a new service "Let's simulate with you"

12/03/2025

ERSE - Energy Services Regulatory Authority, as part of the World Consumer Rights Day celebrations, which takes place on 15 March, is launching today a new service "Let's simulate with you” .The aim is to enable consumers to use ERSE's energy price simulator, encouraging them to seek out the best deals for their electricity or natural gas supply.

The initiative, which will be launched at the RTP / Antena 1 headquarters, in Lisbon, targeting the company's employees, aims to strengthen ERSE's support for a growing number of consumers through proximity actions with companies or similar entities throughout the country.

ERSE's new Energy Consumer Literacy Study, to be published tomorrow, reveals that only 23.3 per cent of portuguese domestic consumers are familiar with energy price simulators.

In this sense, the "Let's simulate with you" service will be provided by ERSE, preferably in workplaces with a large number of employees, and through prior scheduling by the heads of the companies, which can be done here.

There are currently numerous offers from various suppliers on the market. ERSE advises consumers to use the energy price  comparison tool available on its website at least twice a year, for which it also provides an explanatory video.

ERSE's energy price simulator compares all electricity and natural gas commercial offers for domestic electricity (Normal Low Voltage) and natural gas (Low Pressure) consumers in mainland Portugal, and is an essential tool for an informed choice by consumers who want to change supplier.

In 2024, ERSE's energy price comparison tool recorded more than 1.6 million simulations carried out by around 657 thousand users. Over the last three years, around 5.4 million simulations have been carried out by around 1.5 million users.

As the regulator of the energy sector, ERSE is responsible for the protection of consumer rights and the promotion of energy literacy, and in this context it promotes various information and training actions for consumers every year, as well as providing a wide range of educational and informative materials with which it intends to continue contributing to the empowerment of energy consumers, with a view to promoting their active and informed participation in the market and safeguarding their rights.
