ERSE report on Technical Quality of Service on the gas sector - 2024
29/08/2025
Portugal’s Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE) published its Technical Quality of Service Report on the gas sector – 2024, offering a detailed overview of how gas infrastructure operators performed last year.
The report covers the continuity of supply, pressure levels, and gas quality across the national gas transmission and distribution networks, as well as operations at the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Terminal.
Highlights from 2024:
- No interruptions were recorded in the gas transmission network, maintaining the high standards observed in previous years;
- Performance in gas distribution networks declined, with 16,604 (1.1%) customer installations affected by unplanned interruptions — the majority due to third-party causes;
- Despite these events, all continuity of supply standards were met by distribution system operators (DSOs);
- Gas characteristics at both the LNG Terminal and in transmission network were fully compliant with regulatory limits;
- At the LNG Terminal there were 53 methane tanker discharges (three fewer than in 2023);The average effective unloading time of methane tankers increased 2.4% compared to the previous year.
Alongside the report, ERSE has also published a factsheet – ERSExplica – highlighting key figures on gas distribution interruptions and how they impacted consumers.
